Three words that will impact your 2015
2015 is my fifteenth year as a professional coach. This represents 100’s of clients and 1,000’s and 1,000’s of hours coaching. Over the last 15 years, I’ve learnt a thing or two.
I was having a meal with a fellow coach recently and we were discussing the successes and challenges of 2014. As we chatted, I became aware that three words were consistently being used. And whilst we were talking about our coaching businesses and I was often referring to my last 15 years in the coaching business, these three words are relevant to anyone committed to getting the most out or their career, relationships, business or life.
What have you decided you want to achieve in 2015? If you haven’t decided that yet, get cracking. It’s not too late. Without these three things though, your goal or dream will never become a reality. The year will gradually slip by and at the end; you’ll regret you didn’t apply these three things.
1. Focus
To achieve any success in life, focus must be maintained. How many times have you taken your eye of the prize, dropped the ball or were sidetracked with other things. You can lose focus because of some other passions or just the everyday demands of life. I know it happens to me with the not-for-profit organisations I have founded. But if I don’t maintain the focus and keep up the momentum going on my coaching business clients don’t automatically walk through the door. What do you need to maintain focus on right now or throughout the year?
2. Commitment
Maintaining commitment is similar to focus but also different. Focus is about attention. Commitment is about energy and priorities. Your commitment to your success and goals is the fuel that leads to achievement. If you are committed, you will MAKE the time. You WILL prioritize your time. This demonstrates just how important these things are to you. If you keep saying something is important but don’t actually MAKE or devote time to it then you are fooling yourself. Your words and actions are incongruous.
3 Persistence
Barriers and obstacles come in all shapes and sizes. Things rarely, if ever, run smoothly from A to Z. I guarantee there will be setbacks along the way. What are you going to do? Crumble, retreat, quit?
Sometimes there is hostile opposition to what you want to achieve. Resilience and the ability to push through are paramount. Be more determined, resilient, persistent. Believe me, I wouldn’t be where I am today without persistence.
If this resonates with you then I suggest you create something that has the three words FOCUS, COMMITMENT, PERSISTENCE on them and put them up somewhere as a constant reminder.
Coaching helps keep you focused, hiring a coach demonstrates commitment to your personal success and coaching helps you see options and possibilities when obstacles get in the way. Book a complimentary one hour consultation online to discover how this works.
